CIRA Service in Response to NIH Public Access Policy

The NIH Public Access Policy requires:

  1. Scientists submit final peer-reviewed journal manuscripts that arise from NIH funds to the digital archive, PubMed Central, upon acceptance for publication; and
  2. Papers are accessible to the public on PubMed Central no later than 12 months after publication.

Although study section members have not focused on compliance in this area, CIRA now gets requests for all of this information in response to Just-in-Time requests. The bottom line is that if you have a new project funded, it is very likely that you will have to supply this information for all articles on your biosketch. Thus, it would be easier to do this now and avoid the crunch when Just-in-Time requests come in.

CIRA can help you get this done. If you are a CIRA Affiliate and would like our assistance submitting your publications to PubMed Central, contact Gai Doran (gai.doran@yale.edu) for further information.
