Before her current affiliation as Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Dr. Brawner was a Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Health Equity Research also at UPenn. Dr. Brawner's program of research seeks to develop evidence-based, culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate interventions to address the sexual health needs of adolescents whose lack of emotional and psychological wellbeing has manifested in conditions such as depression, anxiety and polysubstance abuse. Bridgette will be working with mentor and REIDS Director Dr. Barbara Guthrie on a community based research project that will partner with heterosexually-active Black adolescents to identify gender and culturally, developmentally and psychologically appropriate HIV/STI risk reduction strategies.
