Heat Map of CIRA Affiliates

The Yale Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS (CIRA) has been extremely successful achieving its goals for the previous 25 years. The Center continues to have a large impact on status neutral HIV care locally (with a focus in New England and small urban areas), a strong global portfolio, and a growing presence nationally in Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) priority areas thanks to our large network of current and former training fellows and collaborators. Achievements include a prodigious record of externally funded research and publications, the development and successful operation of health equity, implementation science, and community-engaged research initiatives, a productive international program that has expanded CIRA’s global research and collaborations, and five coordinated training programs that have trained a total of 174 HIV researchers, representing the next generation of HIV scientists and scholars. CIRA currently has 300+ affiliates of HIV researchers, clinicians, and community members. Although the largest group of our affiliates come from Yale and are based in Connecticut, we have a growing presence throughout the United States and globally, with 40% from outside of Connecticut, and 30% from EHE priority areas (see graphic). Over the past 5 years, we have supported 164 HIV-related projects (including 77 R grants, 20 K career award grants, and 8 U cooperative agreement grants), generating over $137,840,000 in grant funding from 15 different NIH institutes, with the most coming from NIMH. The CIRA P30 grant provided direct support to 129 publications (from pilot and training programs) and Center affiliates generated 1453 peer-reviewed articles showing tremendous scientific impact on the field of HIV prevention research.
