Biography:

Dr. Ashleigh LoVette's research focuses on understanding and using strengths-based and community-based approaches to improve the sexual and mental health of emerging adults and their families. Her current work examines how resilience, trauma, health behaviors, and social contexts influence sexual and mental health outcomes among young people, particularly those affected by HIV. Dr. LoVette's previous research used quantitative and qualitative methods to critically examine the concept of resilience and how it relates to the sexual health of girls and young women living in the context of sustained HIV risk. A global health scholar, she has spent time completing research and working in Ghana, South Africa, and the United States.

With a background in public health and communication, Dr. LoVette applies an interdisciplinary lens to her research and work. In addition to conducting research, she is committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive and equitable environment of higher education. She earned her Ph.D. in Behavioral and Social Health Sciences from Brown University School of Public Health in 2020. Prior to her doctoral training, she completed several marketing and communication internships as well as a fellowship focused on health communication at the National Cancer Institute (National Institutes of Health).
