Adapting Peer Navigation for Out-of-Care Older Persons with HIV in Ukraine

CIRA affiliates Julia Rozanova, PhD, and Sheela Shenoi, MD, MPH, have been awarded an R21 from the National Institute on Aging to adapt, tailor and test a peer navigation strategy for supporting older people in the Ukraine who are living with HIV to engage in care. The study is both critical and timely - in the Ukraine 25% of people with HIV are over 50 years of age but less than 30% of them are linked to ART within 6 months of diagnosis, and the impact of COVID-19 has particularly affected this population. Formative data for this implementation science study came from their CIRA pilot, "Barriers to HIV Care for Adults 50yo+, a Neglected but at-risk Population in Ukraine".

Dr. Rozanova is an Associate Research Scientist and Dr. Shenoi is an Assistant Professor of Medicine both in the AIDS program at the Yale School of Medicine.

Congratulations to Drs. Rozanova and Shenoi!
