From June 3-6 CIRA's Clinical & Health Services Research Core sponsored a 4-day training in participatory photography on the Yale School of Nursing campus. This method, also known as photovoice, is an approach to community engagement where individuals are provided cameras and supported in sharing their perspectives through photography, with the goal of informing decision making and driving social change. The training was facilitated by Tom Elkins, Director of UK-based PhotoVoice. A diverse group of 11, including faculty, postdocs, students, staff, and a CIRA Community Advisory Board member participated, experiencing the process of being a participant as well as gaining skills in leading a participatory photography group as part of their own work. If you missed the training and want to learn more about using this approach, reach out to Daniel.Davidson@yale.edu.
