CIRA International Visiting Fellow Program 2025

CIRA is pleased to announce that the center will host the next cohort of international visiting fellows between April 21st and May 2nd, 2025. The goal of the program is to support CIRA investigators engaged in HIV research in an international setting to bring an established or prospective research partner to CIRA and Yale for a short visit to work on collaborative HIV research endeavors, present on their current research and future projects, and network with CIRA's research community. The program prioritizes visiting fellows from a country in regions with the highest burden of HIV/AIDS.

The 2025 international visiting fellows and Yale faculty hosts are:

  1. Claire Kwagala, MBcHB, MMed Psychiatry (The Uganda Initiative for Integrated Management of Non-Communicable Diseases, Uganda)
    • Research interests: integration of mental health into HIV care and other chronic conditions, opioid use disorder among adolescents with sickle cell disease, culturally appropriate mental health interventions, and digital health innovation
    • CIRA/Yale host: Jeremy Schwartz, MD (Yale School of Medicine)
  2. Assel Terlikbayeva, MD, MSSW, MPH (Global Health Research Center of Central Asia, Kazakhstan)
    • Research interests: HIV prevention, substance use, mental health, and gender-based violence in Central Asia, and behavioral and biomedical interventions to improve health outcomes among key populations
    • CIRA/Yale host: Frederick Altice, MD, MA (Yale School of Medicine)

CIRA will organize an in-person and virtual seminar in late April featuring the fellows' presentations on their respective work (details forthcoming). We look forward to welcoming the visiting fellows to Yale and New Haven.
