Abstract Text:

The HIV epidemic rages on in sub-Saharan Africa and is a global public health threat. Despite improvements in global access to HIV medications and improved HIV testing, patients still face barriers and do not begin treatment. This undermines the effort to reduce HIV-related deaths as well as weakens the impact on stopping spread of the virus. Preliminary data from our research site has identified a large number of HIV infected community members who have not sought HIV care. This proposal seeks to determine the barriers that HIV infected patients have to initiating therapy and piloting interventions to remove those obstacles.
