Last week at the American Public Health Association conference in San Francisco, former CIRA research assistant, Terry Tian, M.P.H., presented a poster titled "Understanding Community-Based Organization Capacity to Engage in Research that Supports Their Mission to Improve Community Health" which summarized a wonderfully collaborative project between CIRA, CARE - Community Alliance for Research and Engagement, The Institute for Community Research and community organizations and health centers throughout Connecticut. Co-authors included Amy Carroll-Scott, Ph.D., M.P.H., Debbie Humphries, Ph.D., M.P.H., Shonali Choudhury, Ph.D., M.M.H., Leif Mitchell, and David Fiellin, M.D. The objective of the project was to develop and pilot a multi-domain CBO research capacity assessment survey designed to explore associations between organizational experience and characteristics with different levels of research activities and needs.
